Political Catch Phrases

Over the last few years the arguments have been all the same when trying to downplay the current government. Phrases like " Lack of accountability," "lack of competency", and " lack of ability" have become political catch phrases. No doubt wrongs have been done in this government and they will be done again without question. The problem is everyone is so concerned with making everyone happy they end up making no one happy. Instead fighting a war with just enough troops to get by and only keeping enough troops there to maintain the surge we should have committed so much of our force that it would have overwhelmed any opposition to the point where we can control and neutralize the situation. Had this government gone through the proper steps and actually declared war on Iraq/Afghanistan we could have contributed the proper amount of force to these regions and suppressed any resistance we might in counter. Instead we have troops who are being overwhelmed by rebels with hand guns. We are treating this war like it is one we can simple quell with our ability to fight when we should be using the size of our force to smash the opposition. The inability for our government to agree and completely commit to this conflict has given our enemies hope, it has given them confidence, and it has given them a reason to fight. Much like Vietnam we are facing an enemy that believes they are fighting for their homeland, we are fighting for our beliefs and convictions that democracy is a gift we must share with the world. Only time will tell who is more willing to fight for what they believe in, but unless we are willing to accept that we can't simply scare these men into submitting their way of life. this will not suffice we are facing an enemy that is too convinced in their beliefs.

What is Love?

Well it only makes sense that one of my first few entries into my Blogging world would be one of the most important things in everyone's lives. We all look for something to love, thats just a fact of life, as human beings we constantly need something to cling to, weither it be a person, a place, or an activity. We all need something, even if it just to take our mind off the reality of our own lives. That is why we are constantly searching, searching for that one special thing that makes us feel whole. Some of us find it in religion, some of us find it in an idea, and those of us who are lucky enough find it in another person. That is why my friends we search all our lives for that one special thing. because that one special thing makes everything else just seem second best. Call me a romantic, Call me a dreamer, but when did that become a bad thing?

State of Our Union

Recently I tuned in to watch our president, George W. Bush, give his annual state of the Union address. Like many of your I'm sure I heard several things that sounded good and made sense, however on the other hand I saw several things that made little to no sense to me along with a few things that flat out infuriated me. But alas their was a gleaming light of hope in my eyes and that was when the speech was over and Virginia Senator Jim Web gave his speech on the democratic reaction to the state of the union address. Before continuing let me state that I am neither Democrat or Republican, I believe in issues and I am open to other points of view in the matter. After watching the State of the Union I really didn't know what to think, in speaking for about one hour ( barely 25 minutes if you don't count applause time) our president proceeded to deny facts, shift blame, and butcher the speech that I'm sure a lot of smart people worked on. I'm not anti-war just like I am not anti-government, However I refuse to respect a leader who can't read off a card. I will give you that I probably wouldn't do much better, but then again I'm not running for public office. In the history of the United States we have had many influential leaders, many of whom might not have been geniuses, but they took their job seriously and served our country with a sense of pride for those who have come before him. It has been said that no other president or leader has had to deal with the pressures that this president has, I believe that to be an extreme exaggeration. America has felt pain before but we have pulled through, and in these times where we look to our leaders we have sought refuge in their ability to conquer adversity. I respect the job he has to do and I realize that it is a tough job to handle, but that is what he signed up for. I was more intrigued by the democratic response and the words Senator Web had to say. In his speech which lasted about 30 minutes, without pausing and without making mistakes he read his speech and explained why this year has a lot of potential to become a very interesting one. Personally I found in extremely gratifying to see a sight that I haven't in some time, an intelligent man speaking with the American flag in the Background.
