State of Our Union

Recently I tuned in to watch our president, George W. Bush, give his annual state of the Union address. Like many of your I'm sure I heard several things that sounded good and made sense, however on the other hand I saw several things that made little to no sense to me along with a few things that flat out infuriated me. But alas their was a gleaming light of hope in my eyes and that was when the speech was over and Virginia Senator Jim Web gave his speech on the democratic reaction to the state of the union address. Before continuing let me state that I am neither Democrat or Republican, I believe in issues and I am open to other points of view in the matter. After watching the State of the Union I really didn't know what to think, in speaking for about one hour ( barely 25 minutes if you don't count applause time) our president proceeded to deny facts, shift blame, and butcher the speech that I'm sure a lot of smart people worked on. I'm not anti-war just like I am not anti-government, However I refuse to respect a leader who can't read off a card. I will give you that I probably wouldn't do much better, but then again I'm not running for public office. In the history of the United States we have had many influential leaders, many of whom might not have been geniuses, but they took their job seriously and served our country with a sense of pride for those who have come before him. It has been said that no other president or leader has had to deal with the pressures that this president has, I believe that to be an extreme exaggeration. America has felt pain before but we have pulled through, and in these times where we look to our leaders we have sought refuge in their ability to conquer adversity. I respect the job he has to do and I realize that it is a tough job to handle, but that is what he signed up for. I was more intrigued by the democratic response and the words Senator Web had to say. In his speech which lasted about 30 minutes, without pausing and without making mistakes he read his speech and explained why this year has a lot of potential to become a very interesting one. Personally I found in extremely gratifying to see a sight that I haven't in some time, an intelligent man speaking with the American flag in the Background.
